Mac Jones Physical Traits Questioned at OTAs

All four Patriots quarterbacks attended the latest Organized Team Activities. Mac Jones did his thing during the OTAs and things look really well for the first-round selection. Well, some NFL analysts noticed Jones’ physical traits.

Tom Curran from NBC Sports Boston noticed Jones’ size difference and slightness of frame. He compared Jones to other Patriots quarterbacks. Yes, he is smaller than Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham.

Jones and Stidham are listed at 6’3’’. Well, Jones didn’t seem as tall as he was listed.

Mac Jones will have to try harder in next OTAs

Newton won the MVP award in 2015. He led the team to the Super Bowl. When healthy, he is an excellent quarterback. Newton will enter his second year with the Patriots. According to Liam McKeone from The Big Lead, Jones will have to wait a year before taking Newton’s position.

“He is now the quarterback of the future for the NFL’s most successful franchise of the 21st Century, and many eyes will be on him as he develops under Bill Belichick. The Patriots’ short and long-term success and ability to compete for Super Bowls rides almost entirely upon his shoulders. Jones does not need to become the team’s savior immediately, though. Cam Newton is under contract for 2021 on a one-year deal that could be worth eight digits if he hits all of his incentives. This was probably the ideal outcome for Belichick & Co. after they signed Newton ahead of free agency two months ago. There’s no need to give the rookie a trial by fire if they can use what they know they have in Newton while seeing what they have in the newcomer, and they have someone not named Jarrett Stidham to step in if either gets hurt.”

Belichick selected Jones for a reason. He will probably wait for the rookie to gain strength and enough experience to lead the Patriots to the playoffs. The team missed the big game in 2020. Belichick will change the narrative in 2021. Patriots players have accepted the challenge and they will be working with an excellent head coach.
