Bill Belichick Dropping the Ball With Top Patriots Player

Head coach Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are coming off a bad season. The team finished the 2020 season with a 7-9 record and Belichick wants his players to do better than that. Patrick Chung retired, a few other players joined different teams, and Belichick welcomed some of his former players back in New England. The Patriots head coach selected a talented group of players in the 2021 NFL draft and signed great free agents.

Veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore is in a rather tricky situation. The same goes for J.C. Jackson. He had nine interceptions in 2020. Maybe he deserves a contract extension.

Jackson is a former undrafted free agent who would have signed a marvelous contract somewhere else. But, he is stuck with the Patriots. Here’s what Mike Giardi from nfl.com wrote about him:

“… Since 2019, the Florida native has kept opposing receivers on lockdown, allowing the lowest passer rating in the league (per PFF), a paltry 48. That’s 14.4 rating points better than the cavalcade of stars that are second over that time: Tre’Davious White, Stephon Gilmore and Xavien Howard. Jackson also has more interceptions (14) than any defensive back during this stretch. Is he a legit No. 1 corner?”

Bill Belichick will probably let the Patriots cornerback go

NFL analysts predicted Jackson’s impeccable season. He will probably have a Pro Bowl appearance. Will the Patriots reward him?

Belichick was focused on a different aspect of the game. Team owner Robert Kraft asked him to get a good draft group and a signal-caller. Belichick did that and much more.

Will Jackson have the same destiny as Tom Brady? We have a few good reasons to believe that Belichick won’t pay him. The same happened to Deion Branch, Ty Law, Asante Samuel, Akiem Hicks, Ted Washington, and Malcolm Butler. Belichick let them go just because he didn’t want to pay them.

If Belichick doesn’t give him a deal, Jackson will become an unrestricted free agent and leave the team. Let’s see what happens next. Jackson is too valuable for the Patriots right now.
