Keyshaw Johnson Makes Clear Statement On New England Patriots Quarterback Battle

What are your bets on the New England Patriots quarterback battle? Cam Newton may start games with the Patriots next season but he will have to win the QB competition first. Head coach Bill Belichick selected Mac Jones in the first round of the NFL draft and the rookie is doing an incredible job on the football field. His preseason performance is making headlines in the league and experts have high expectations from him.

The Patriots’ QB competition is the most intriguing in the league at the moment.

Patriots head coach to make a decision on the quarterback battle

Newton led the offense in the first Tom Brady-less season. He struggled to replace the GOAT. Obviously. Of course, experts were worried about the passing game and Newton had some serious struggles. He completed 65.8 percent of his throws for 2,657 yards and eight touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 15 games. The Patriots finished the regular season with a 7-8 record. It was a bad record and Belichick promised to make some changes in the offseason. He brought a lot of valuable players and gave Newton an ultimatum. Sort of. Newton has to do better than his younger teammate to earn his spot at center.

Former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson shared his thoughts on the Patriots quarterback battle in Friday’s edition of Get Up. There were so many rumors suggesting that Jones may take the lead in 2021. Johnson would stick with Newton.

“This somewhat of a manufactured media story as far as I’m concerned,” Johnson said. “…CLEARLY Cam Newton’s the starter. … [Mac Jones] is not pushing him. He really isn’t.”

Belichick will go with the best player regardless of his experience. If Jones gives the Patriots a chance to win, he will probably go under center.

For now, Newton looks like the best starting back option for the Patriots. Let’s not forget that he did a good job in the second preseason game.

The rookie has one more game to impress the coaching staff.
