Patriots Tight End Shares His Impression Of Rookie QB Mac Jones

Mac Jones has earned words of praise this summer. Patriots players and coaches like his potential, and he is already a fan favorite. Let’s not forget that Patriots fans greeted him with rousing ovations during the first practice this summer. Cam Newton got the same treatment, but Jones was a real fresh power. People like new faces with great potential. Jones is much more than that. A Patriots tight end has something to say about the first-rounder and his teammates will definitely agree with him on this one.

Since joining the Patriots, Jones has impressed pretty much everyone in the locker room. He is doing a great job in practice and was awesome in both preseason games. Will Jones get the starting job this year?

The Patriots tight end likes Jones

There are so many rumors about the Patriots quarterback battle. Jones enjoys the support of an incredible fanbase. This may have a huge impact on his future with the team.

Newly-signed veteran tight end Jonnu Smith had the chance to watch Jones in action. He likes his moves and definitely appreciates his skill set.

According to Smith, the rookie didn’t try too hard to learn Belichick’s rulebook. He didn’t need much time to fit inside the offense. Similar to Tom Brady, Jones has an incredible work ethic.

“I think he’s been progressing really well, just taking from everything that’s in the meeting rooms, on the field, and just executing it,” Smith said, via Henry McKenna of USA TODAY Sports. “You can tell he’s getting comfortable, he’s settling in. And everything’s going to work out for him. He’s a hard worker. So I’m looking forward to seeing him do great things.”

Smith and his teammates use every opportunity to praise the first-rounder. Special teamer Matthew Slater said Jones’ family must be proud of him and everything he has accomplished on the field.

Head coach Bill Belichick may not put Jones at center at this point. Newton will probably get the starting job this time. But, Jones will be right there waiting for an opportunity. Just like Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe.

In the preseason, Jones was able to complete 26-of-38 passes for 233 yards in two games. He will see more playing time in the finale. Newton is on the sidelines due to the misunderstanding over the coronavirus tests.
