Report: Patriots Invite Former XFL Quarterback For Tryout

The New England Patriots have four quarterbacks on the field right now. Third-round Jarrett Stidham underwent a back surgery to fix his health issue. Four options and Bill Belichick is not happy yet. He has four great quarterbacks on the practice field at the moment. Guess what… The Patriots had another quarterback for a tryout. What does that mean?

The team had five players in for workouts on Thursday. Ole Miss star and XFL player Jordan Ta’amu is one of them. Mike Reiss from ESPN confirmed the information. Other players may have a good chance to earn a roster spot, but experts prefer talking about quarterbacks. I guess signal-callers always get most of the attention.

Ta’amu played for the Kansas City Chiefs but the team waived him in May. He was also part of the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions in the NFL. Let’s not forget that he also had a stint with the XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks.

Patriots to get their fifth quarterback following the tryout?

In college, Ta’amu had great run at Ole Miss. He arrived there from New Mexico Military Institute but got a chance to play a lot as a senior. The quarterback had 40 touchdowns with the Repels – 30 happened with the passing game and 10 went on rushing.

Seeing him come in for a workout is a good sign. But, here’s the catch. Will Belichick let him stay in New England? He has four great quarterbacks. Why would he work out another signal-caller?

Cam Newton will probably start games in 2021, and Mac Jones has a chance to step in as a replacement at some point of the regular season.

Several NFL analysts suggest that the Patriots will probably release or trade one of their quarterbacks. Stidham may be a good target in this aspect. The team placed him on the physically-unable to perform list. Will the Patriots part ways with the third-rounder?

If Belichick wants to cut Stidham, why would he bring in another quarterback for a workout? There are so many possible scenarios on the table right now. What happens next?
