Cam Newton Facing Grim Truth 10 Days After Patriots Exit

Cam Newton left the New England Patriots a couple of weeks before Week 1 of the regular season, and he seems to know the reason for his exit. The Patriots cut the former MVP and gave Mac Jones a chance to lead the offense.

The 2015 NFL MVP talked about his departure during the Funky Friday episode. Let’s just say these comments didn’t sit well with some people from the NFL world. This leads us to the following question. Will Newton ever play a game in the NFL?

A lot of people talk about Newton’s best scenario, but no one has actually made an offer. Newton is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and teams don’t want him on their roster. Why?

Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk discussed this topic. According to him, there is zero interest in Newton at the moment. He won the NFL MVP award in 2015, but teams haven’t made an offer. Pretty much everyone has found their quarterback and Newton doesn’t really fit in the backup role.

“His best play will be to wait for an injury,” said Florio on Newton. “Even then, the question is whether the team will bring in Newton or rely on the next man up.”

Newton said the Patriots didn’t keep him around because Jones would feel uncomfortable with him around. Is this even true?

Ben Volin from The Boston Globe shared his thoughts on Newton’s most recent comments.

“’Can we be honest? The reason why they released me is because indirectly I was going to be a distraction, without being the starter. Just my aura. That’s my gift and my curse,’ said Newton on Patriots dismissal.

“Would he have accepted a role as Mac’s backup? ‘I would’ve said absolutely.’”

Newton has so much to offer at this point and he may even return to New England as a backup. But the Patriots worked out a quarterback and they may not want to bring him back to the field. Let’s see what happens next in Newton’s career. He is a strong quarterback who can contribute to the game.
