Cam Newton Mentioned As Potential Replacement for Rookie QB

Cam Newton had a hard time finding his next home after the New England Patriots released him and it looks like he will step in as a replacement for one rookie quarterback.

Rookie Davis Mills gives the Houston Texans a big headache. The team decided to trust him but his talent didn’t help the team score. Houston deals with several challenges at the moment and the rookie seems to be the biggest issue right now.

Ben Volin of The Boston Globe believes that the Texans should put Newton on the field. Is this even possible? Newton is a former NFL MPV and this may be his ticket. Will he take it? He won’t get another job at this point. Here’s the catch. Do the Texans even want him?

Is Cam Newton the best replacement for the rookie?

This may be a good opportunity for both Newton and the Texans. Joseph Nocco of ClutchSports shares the same opinion.

“Regardless of how terrible the Texans intend to be this time around, Houston simply cannot stick with Mills. Instead, they need to put in a call to former Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, who remains an unrestricted free agent.

“The 32-year-old Newton is no doubt past his prime. However, he is by far the best available option out there on the open market at the present moment. With former Alabama Crimson Tide standout and Patriots rookie Mac Jones beating out Newton for the starting job in New England during the preseason, the heralded AFC East franchise — in a very surprising move — elected to cut ties with the former league MVP and longtime Panthers signal-caller. This preseason aside, Newton only lasted one season in New England and led the Patriots to a very disappointing 7-9 record. Although COVID-19, a change of scenery, and ultimately a first-round NFL Draft pick spoiled Newton’s brief stint as a member of the Patriots, there is still a very solid chance that his time in New England was nothing more than an outlier.”

The Texans should take this suggestion into consideration. They don’t have the strongest roster at the moment but Newton will get a chance to show his talent and they will get a chance to win. I mean, they were horrible in the game against Newton’s former team. The Carolina Panthers came on top last night.
