Rodney Harrison Believes Patriots Should Use Top Pick On This Position

The New England Patriots are entering another important offseason. They lost the wild-card game to the Buffalo Bills, and yes, it was more than obvious that the team has to make some changes. Rodney Harrison has a suggestion for the Patriots and maybe Bill Belichick will take this into consideration. Harrison knows a few things about the game after all.

The former Patriots safety believes that the Patriots should get a linebacker with their 21st overall selection in the upcoming draft. The Patriots could use some help on both ends of the game. They need a wide receiver with great experience and skills. A superstar could easily fit in Belichick’s roster. The Patriots can also boost the secondary.

Although the Patriots are expected to keep Jackson in the fold, they may lose Devin McCourty. What if Jackson leaves the team, too? That’s why Harrison believes that the Patriots could use a linebacker.

“I just need a young, fast, athletic linebacker that’s an excellent playmaker that can run sideline to sideline,” Harrison recently said Friday on WEEI’s “Merloni & Fauria,” as transcribed by Patriots Wire. “A guy that can play on every single down. A difference-maker. A guy that can blitz. A guy that can drop into coverage.

“You can find that guy in the first and second rounds. But definitely (draft a player) on the defensive side of the ball.”

Rodney Harrison motivates Patriots

New England has great linebacker unit, but players are aging and get hurt easily. A lot of players will enter free agency. What if each and every player leaves the team? Losing Dont’a Hightower and Ja’Whaun Bentley would be a big blow for the team.

Belichick can go after a big player in the offseason. His team has been linked to players like Nakobe Dean and Devin Lloyd. Is there any chance for these two to join the Patriots? Truth is, the list of opportunities is never endless. Belichick will be working with a different coaching staff this season, and he will also work with new players. NFL analysts have made a several predictions regarding Belichick’s first pick.
