Patriots Showed Interest in Explosive QB WR

The New England Patriots have to take care of a few major needs this offseason. They have to get more weapons for Mac Jones. The first-rounder has secured his job as a starting quarterback for the Patriots. However, head coach Bill Belichick is up to something and has a plan. He always does. The Patriots have a signal caller but they have shown great interest in an explosive QB.

The potential arrival of the new quarterback would put Jarrett Stidham’s position with the team.

The Patriots had a scout to watch Bailey Zappe at Western Kentucky. Assistant Joe Judge had a private workout with D’Eriq King from the Miami Hurricanes. What makes these two so special? King was quarterback and wide receiver in college. Rings a bell? Reminds you of someone? The one and only: Julian Edelman.

“Most NFL teams are working out King as a quarterback while also intrigued by his versatility as a slot receiver and as a red-zone threat,” Wilson wrote.

Patriots have great interest in the explosive QB for a reason

King is a versatile player and this makes him a valuable option for the Patriots. His running game is sharp, too and the Patriots may use him as a punt returner.

The talented player could be of great help for the Patriots. Belichick may soon work with a strong receiver. In his six years at college, King scored 2,575 yards and 35 touchdowns on 484 catches as a runner and receiver.

Let’s move on to his QB action. King was able to throw for 8,378 yards, 76 scores, 19 interceptions while completing 63.1% of his passes. Well, one doesn’t get a versatile player like King every day. He can accomplish a lot of great things at both quarterback and wide receiver.

Things won’t go that easy though. King sustained a season-ending shoulder injury in 2021. He underwent a surgery but feels really good right now.

King is not as huge as other receivers, but he can definitely take a QB role with the Pats. Let’s see what happens later in the offseason.
