1-Time Champion Named as ‘Ideal Head Coach’ for Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are still looking for a head coach after firing Frank Vogel. Several coaches are considered top candidates for the job but only one of them is the ideal head coach for the Lakers.

That’s what Maurice Bobb of Bleacher Report suggests. According to Bobb, Doc Rivers is the “ideal head coach” for the purple and gold.

“Additionally, Los Angeles’ front office didn’t feel that Vogel brought out the best in Westbrook or set him up for success, so they want a coach who can find a way to salvage the 2017 MVP’s career, if they decide not to trade the 33-year-old,” Bobb wrote. “That’s easier said than done, but Rivers has experience dealing with big personalities. He’s coached Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.

“Then there’s their superstar duo of Anthony Davis and James. Rivers found a way to make a cohesive group of Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett while with the Celtics and won a championship in 2008, so there’s the hope that he can get the most out of Davis and James moving forward.”

The ideal head coach for the Lakers is under contract

Philadelphia President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey is convinced that Rivers will stay on the team for another season.

Marc Stein of Substack reported that the Lakers still hope to get Rivers this offseason. The legendary coach is one of the best coaches in the NBA and has worked with great teams. Many would agree that he is the right person to coach LeBron James and Anthony Davis. His teams haven’t won anything in the last few seasons, but Rivers did a wonderful job at the sideline.

The Boston Celtics shipped Rivers to the Clippers in 2013 and we can see a similar scenario this summer. Sam Amick reminded everyone of this trade, suggesting that history may repeat itself. If Rivers wants to coach LeBron and the Lakers, he may soon trade himself to LA.

NBA execs know that LeBron has tons of respect for Rivers. If LeBron gets to decide, he will bring Rivers to LA. That’s the scenario we don’t want to miss.
