Patriots Could Sign Former MVP Contender

Head coach Bill Belichick knows how to light up a fallen NFL star. The New England Patriots head coach has made a lot of bold moves over the years and it seems like he can easily sign a former MVP contender.

The Patriots made their picks in the 2023 NFL draft and Belichick can now focus on the free market. Ezekiel Elliot is still available and the Patriots can use their power to get the 28-year-old.

Elliott noticed a big drop in his performance last season. This could be a major turndown for teams interested in his skills. He marked a career-low 3.8 yards per carry and analysts had some concerns about his future in the league.

The Dallas Cowboys released Elliot two months ago, giving him a chance to find another home in the NFL. Will Belichick do an effort to sign him? The Patriots can still add depth at running back. Elliott could be the perfect runner, pass-catcher, and even blocker. Belichick likes versatile players and Elliott sure fits in their system.

In 2022, Elliott had 12 touchdowns. He had 17 catches last season, but delivered 47 or more catches and two TDs in each of the previous three NFL seasons.

The Patriots could use the former MVP contender

Rhamondre Stevenson is the perfect option for the Patriots at the moment. Elliott could take some of his load and make things easier for Patriots coaches. Stevenson had a big role with the Patriots last season and we have a feeling that he will be equally engaged this time. Damien Harris lest the Patriots in free agency and signed a deal with the Buffalo Bills. He is gone and Elliott could be the best pass catcher in New England.

The Patriots have $11.8 million in salary cap space this season. In other words, they can afford Elliott. Yes, he won’t get the deal he had with the Cowboys, but he can definitely earn good money.

In his eight NFL seasons, Elliott had 8262 yards and 68 touchdowns to go with 305 receptions for 2,336 yards and 12 scores. He made one All-Pro first team and three Pro Bowls. In other words, he is the perfect candidate for the Patriots.
