Lakers Encouraged To Sign 6-Time All-Star Free Agent

The Los Angeles Lakers will enter the 2023-24 NBA season with a big chunk of last year’s roster. Anthony Davis signed a three-year contract extension with the team, securing his position through the 2027-28 season. The Lakers made a few small moves, too, and now they are advised to sign an All-Star free agent.

Signing Blake Griffin makes sense, right? He could easily fit in one of the two open roster spots. Ben Stinar from Sports Illustrated is a big fan of this scenario. The six-time All-Star forward would be a natural fit for the purple and gold.

“Griffin has transitioned well into becoming a veteran off the bench,” Stinar wrote in a July 30 column. “He could still be a reliable backup forward and help the young players on the roster as a mentor in the locker room.”

Griffin made a name for himself over the years. He was brilliant in his five years with the Los Angeles Clippers. Griffin made a few stops in the past three years and now he has a chance to find a new home. He may not be in his prime, but he has a lot to offer. He could be a strong leader for the Lakers despite his low numbers in 2022-23.

Lakers could get good leadership from the free agent, but also have a few other options

The Lakers could get another big center, but they could also wait and see what Jaxson Hayes has to offer.

“The Lakers have five players who deserve to play at least 20 minutes, at least in the regular season: James, Davis, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt and Taurean Prince,” Jovan Buha from The Athletic wrote in a July 31 column. “That’s before mentioning Jaxson Hayes, who the team is hopeful can start and play a prominent role with Davis in two-big lineups.”

D’Angelo Russell is still here and the veteran has high expectations from his new season with the Lakers.

The Lakers made the Western Conference Finals last season, but lost the chance to win a title. They are motivated to go stronger in 2023-24.
