Patriots Get Critical Injury Update On Training Camp Star Mike Gesicki

New England Patriots fans got a little worried after Mike Gesicki suffered a shoulder injury in Monday’s practice. He is one of the most efficient additions in the offseason and the Patriots can’t lose him at this point. First labeled as an “upper body injury,” Gesicki’s shoulder injury won’t really be a problem heading in the new season.

Ian Rapoport was among the first to provide an update on the Patriots player.

“TE Mike Gesicki, who has been impressive early on in camp, suffered a mild dislocated shoulder during yesterday’s practice, source said,” the NFL insider tweeted. “While nothing is given, the hope is he’s back for Week 1 despite the AC joint injury.”

TE Gesicki won’t let his injury stop him from winning a title with the Patriots

Gesicki was a star at training camp and earned the respect of Patriots coaches, including head coach Bill Belichick. He was brilliant with the Miami Dolphins and the Patriots have similar expectations from him this season.

“We know that Miami was capable of basically putting four receivers out on the field on a lot of their snaps, which they did with Gesicki and then the other three receivers,” Belichick said of Gesicki in 2020.

“He’s got good receiving skills. He’s really, I would say, more of a big receiver than a true tight end, but he functions a little bit in that spot. He’s got good quickness, obviously good length, good hands and instinctive receiver that knows how to get open and can make good catches in tight coverage with his length and his hands.”

Belichick has Hunter Henry and Gesicki at tight end and these are two very capable players. However, he needs more experience at this position. All his backup tight ends have little experience and this could be a problem later in the season.

Gesicki could be used in multiple ways in 2023 and he could be a game changer for the team. Let’s see how things roll for him next season. He was a star at training camp and this injury won’t stop him at all.
