Patriots Still ‘Highly Interested’ In Signing 3X Pro Bowl RB

The New England Patriots made some adjustments early in the offseason and they may also do an attempt to sign a Pro Bowl RB.

Head coach Bill Belichick had his eyes on several players, including top free agents. Jeff Howe from The Athletic reported that the Patriots have shown interest in Ezekiel Elliott once again and the talented running back could easily fit in Belichick’s 2023 roster.

“The Patriots have remained highly interested in Ezekiel Elliott, and the Cowboys are also in the mix to re-sign the 28-year-old, according to league sources. The New York Jets have also been in on Elliott,” Howe reported on Sunday.

Elliott visited the Patriots last weekend, but didn’t sign anything specifically.

The running back made a name for himself with his performance. Elliott led the NFL in yardage in 2016 and 2018. He did record career lows in rushing yardage and yards per carry.

Dallas could let the Patriots get their Pro Bowl RB

The Dallas Cowboys can re-sign Elliott again, but coach Mike McCarthy has other ideas. He is not a fan of the idea of getting Elliott back.

“This wasn’t easy for anybody,” McCarthy told reporters. “This is about the bigger picture. It goes well beyond just the running back room. It’s how you fit it together. Then, there’s a financial projection that’s involved in a lot of these decisions. This is the roster that we’ve put together, and it’s my job to make sure I develop it at all times, more importantly get trained here to go win games.”

Belichick will definitely not give Elliott a starting role. Rhamondre Stevenson is on the top of the running back unit. Stevenson had monster performance and Belichick likes versatile players like him. Even if Stevenson stays on the top for a while, the Patriots can still get Elliott for his experience. They need depth at this position and Elliott knows the system really well.

Let’s see what happens in a week. There is always a chance to get someone familiar with the Patriot Way, right?
