Former Patriots RB Damien Harris Leaves Field In Ambulance

The Buffalo Bills shared their most recent update on former New England Patriots running back Damien Harris after he left the Week 6 game in an ambulance.

According to initial reports, Harris deals with a neck injury. Ian Rapoport from NFL Network reported that Harris sustained his injury in a collision on the field in the game. The Bills played against the New York Giants and it was a really ugly collision. Rapoport did note that Harris “has movement in his arms and legs,” which is a good sign in this type of injury. The medical staff placed Harris on a spine board and stretcher. He was admitted to the nearest hospital right away.

Harris feels good despite leaving the game in an ambulance

Harris may have been in pain, but he sure gave a thumbs up to everyone watching the game. He may have been on a stretcher, but he didn’t want his close friends, family, and teammates worry about him. Current and former NFL players sent their messages of support on social media. Everyone hopes for a positive outcome in this one. Harris is a talented player and this injury could have been fatal.

Doctor Jesse Morse did note that the medical attention Harris received “is likely precautionary but appropriate” and they did avoid an additional injury to his spine. The doctor also explained that the Bills running back “could have suffered a fracture or injury to the spinal cord (contusion).”

“Thankfully he made ‘football moves’ after the initial hit and a thumbs up while being stretchered off,” Morse wrote. “Expect X-rays and CT scan.”

Dr. David Chao from Pro Football Doc reported that spine boards are often used as a precautionary tool. As mentioned before, everyone hopes this is just a stinger.

Harris took his talent to the Bills leaving a big hole on the Patriots roster. He was efficient under Bill Belichick, but decided to sign a one-year deal with the Bills this offseason. Harris delivered 22 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown so far in the season. Let’s hope he gets well!
