Patriots QB Mac Jones Names Key Area For Improvement Amid Calls For Benching

The New England Patriots entered a really challenging season and things do not look really good for the team. Mac Jones found himself in hot water and fans are still talking about his benching. Head coach Bill Belichick benched his starting quarterback in favor of Bailey Zappe again. How does Jones feel about this?

Jones faces serious criticism these days, but he seem to have a solution. The talented player believes that he can fix the damage by improving his game.

“One of the best things I do is my ability to communicate,” Jones said. “Somebody told me that in the locker room and I took that to heart; I need to do a better job of that. I haven’t done that here the past couple years.”

Some may claim that Jones does not like his teammates, but here he is today, admitting that his communication was bad. Jones was brilliant in his first season with the Patriots, but his second season was bad. Yes, he didn’t have the best start of his third season as well.

Jones to avoid another benching catastrophe

Jones trusts his instincts and says that he is ready to elevate his game and his leadership.

“I’m not necessarily a younger guy anymore,” Jones told the media. “It’s my third year, and I’ve got to start playing like that and communicating like that. That’s important to me. Whether it’s route depth or, ‘Hey, Pop [Douglas], this is what I want you to do here,’ or whatever.

“It’s all about communication and taking it both ways — from the coaches to the players, players to the coaches. That’s something that I’m going to focus on this week, and I already have. It’s one of the things that I’ve done really well in the past.”

Jones had issues with the coaching staff last season. He had issues with Matt Patricia and didn’t really like his role as an offensive coordinator.

New England is quiet now, but Jones wants to have more moments to celebrate with his teammates.

“When I’m at my best, I’m having fun, enjoying everybody,” Jones said. “That’s one of the good things I can do is communicate and I need to do a better job with that. We’re out there playing a game that we love. Right now, it’s not looking too good but we’ve got to flip the switch and start over and figure out ways to go out there and have fun and sling the ball around, have guys make plays, and go out and celebrate with each other.”
