Bailey Zappe Breaks Silence On Patriots Quarterback Rumors

The New England Patriots deal with a serious issue at quarterback and the situation hasn’t changed a bit. Mac Jones struggled early in the season and his struggles continued. Head coach Bill Belichick benched him in favor of Bailey Zappe, but has yet to make an official decision on his QB unit.

Zappe shared his thoughts on quarterback rumors, but didn’t reveal much.

“Same as every week, preparing for the game no matter what coach’s decision is,” Zappe told the media. “You know, treating it like every other game week.”

The backup quarterback took first team reps on Tuesday and Jones took practice reps. However, this didn’t change the whole situation in Foxboro. I guess Belichick and his players won’t say anything until Week 12.

“That’s Coach [Bill] Belichick’s decision,” Zappe said. “He’s the head coach for a reason. He makes those decisions, and we just play football.”

Belichick to use Zappe as No.1 quarterback?

Belichick received similar questions over the last few days. He wants everyone to be ready, meaning he can play everyone on Sunday.

“I’ve told everybody to be ready to go. And hopefully, that’s what they’re all doing,” Belichick said on Friday. “I’m not going to announce starters at every position, or backup, or whatever. Hopefully, everybody will be ready to go.”

Zappe doesn’t have a final decision, but he is 100% ready to win. He has a 40% completion rate in 25 pass attempts in three regular-season games. His rookie campaign was good, but we don’t really know if he is the right quarterback for the Patriots.

“Whenever I get those opportunities, I got to go in there and do my job,” Zappe said about practice reps in particular. “Haven’t done that to the best of my ability so whenever that next opportunity comes, this week or whenever, I’ll try to go out there, take advantage of my opportunity and just go out there and help the team win.”
