Patriots QB Bailey Zappe Has Bold Response On Taking Mac Jones’ Job As Starter

The New England Patriots lost the game to the Indianapolis Colts and the 10-6 score triggered another avalanche of reactions. Patriots players made a few mistakes and Mac Jones was benched late in the game. Bailey Zappe stepped in as a replacement for him, but experts are not really sure about his role as a Patriots starter.

Zappe did get a chance to play, but launched an interception in the final moments of the game. The backup quarterback rushed his teammates to the line and tried to do a fake spike. His opponents were caught off guard, but defensive backs took care of the move. Zappe did an effort to launch a throw to Demario Douglas, but Rodney Thomas intercepted it.

Is Zappe the right starter for the Patriots?

Reporters asked Zappe if he is able to take Jones’ job as a starter, and he said, “100%.” We don’t really know if Belichick agrees on this one.

Zappe didn’t really get a chance to contribute to the game. He played in four games and threw for 785 yards on 65-for-92 passing to go along with 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The team went 2-0 in his starts and Zappe has a 100.8 QB rating.

“We were kind of behind on time and yards, we talk about one yard for every second,” Zappe said on his final interception. “So we’re trying to get ahead of the time by taking a shot. We figured the play that we had, the fake spike, not letting them get the rush going. That worked but it was kind of me just kind of forcing it, trying to make a play to get us ahead of time.

“Looking back at it, I am probably just going to say, ‘Hey, just throw an incomplete, next down, try and see if we can take another shot.’ But I am sure we will look at it tomorrow or Tuesday and we’ll learn from it.”

The Patriots have to make a decision on their quarterback situation. There are several scenarios for Patriots coaches and some of them doesn’t include Jones.
