Insider Voices Concerns On Harsh Reality Of Lakers Slow Start

The Los Angeles Lakers made all the necessary changes to keep the roster strong and healthy. Well, NBA analysts have voiced some concerns about the 3-4 start of the season. Is the Lakers front office worried about the slow start of the 2023-24 NBA season?

Brian Windhorst from ESPN believes that the Lakers lack depth.

“They’re not as deep as they thought they were,” Windhorst said on “Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective” on November 8. “A Lakers fan would yell at me, ‘Well, we’re down three players.’ That’s but that’s true. But they’re not as resilient as they [thought].”

Lakers could still emerge as winners despite their slow start

The Lakers re-signed some of the players they already had and added a few new names. Some of the players missed time due to injuries and this may have impacted the game.

Windhorst may be worried about the Lakers roster, but head coach Darvin Ham has high expectations from his team. He looked really happy with the depth of the squad before the start of the regular season.

“I think the sky is the limit for what we will be able to do,” the head coach said on August 14. “I think we added a lot of depth, a lot of guys that have skill, size and athleticism, so I look forward to all of that coming together.”

Ham said LeBron James won’t play more than 29 minutes this season. However, the four-time NBA champion would gladly have his playing time increased.

“They wanted to play LeBron [James] less minutes … because they thought they had depth after their offseason,” Windhorst added. “Maybe it’ll show up later but it hasn’t shown up yet.”

Jamal Crawford wouldn’t agree with Windhorst. He believes that the Lakers have everything they need, suggesting that the team needs more time to build good chemistry.

“I don’t think they’re missing any one thing right now, they just need more time to gel,” the retired three-time former Sixth Man of the Year winner wrote for NBA.com on November 7. “It’s going to take time and they’ll need to somehow manage LeBron’s minutes over the course of the season before they get ramped up for the playoffs.”
