NFC South Team Considered As ‘Ironic’ Landing Spot For Patriots’ Bill Belichick

The New England Patriots will soon put an end to another disappointing season. They have won just three games so far in the season. NFL analysts speculate about Mac Jones’ future with the team, suggesting that he may not be able to keep his starting job following the season. Bill Belichick and his coaching job may be in danger, too. Is Belichick looking for a new landing spot in the NFL?

Tyler Sullivan from CBS Sports mentioned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as potential suitors for Belichick. Let’s not forget that Tom Brady signed a deal with the team following his departure from New England.

Sullivan believes that the Buccaneers have three reasons to go after Belichick. Will he be able to pass Don Shula with this change of scenery?

“There is familiarity with the Buccaneers front office as GM Jason Licht had two different tenures under Belichick with the Patriots, including a period from 2009 to 2011 when he was the director of player personnel. With that prior working relationship in mind, there could be a collaborative approach to roster building with Belichick and Licht in his hypothetical partnership.”

Belichick could make a difference in his new landing spot

Belichick was able to build a strong dynasty in New England and his skills and experience could help the Buccaneers win another Super Bowl. Brady helped the Buccaneers win a title in his first season with the team and Belichick could also do the same.

Tampa Bay still has some pieces from its Super Bowl-winning squad of a few years ago and will have over $60 million in cap space to make improvements this offseason. Baker Mayfield is a quarterback the Patriots reportedly liked coming out of the 2018 NFL Draft, so even the situation under center could be appealing to Belichick.”

Going South makes sense for Belichick if he wants to add more wins to his portfolio. Will Robert Kraft let him go?

“And if you’re talking about stacking up wins, the NFC South is one of the least competitive divisions in the NFL. If Belichick can turn the Bucs into the class of that division, he’s arguably looking at six wins out of the gate, which helps in his chase of Shula.”
