Patriots Have Already Contacted $15 Million Free Agent Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots are entering the biggest offseason in team history. This is their first season without head coach Bill Belichick in over two decades. What’s on the table for Robert Kraft and his new squad? Let’s not forget that Belichick was also the Patriots de facto general manager. It will be a busy offseason for the Patriots, but they have already contacted a free agent wide receiver.

Kendrick Bourne enters the open market and he may not have high expectations from the Patriots. Will they give him another contract? The Patriots rank 28th in passing yards, 30th in scoring, and 31st in passing-game grades per Pro Football Focus.

Patriots could bet on the free agent

Andrew Callahan from the Boston Herald reported that the Patriots want to bring Bourne back.

“The team has already been in contact with Kendrick Bourne, I can tell you that,” Callahan said during his “Pats Interference” podcast on Monday, January 15.

The Patriots need all the talent they can get this offseason. They are without Belichick and building a new roster will be quite a challenge for the team. Bourne is a great player to keep as he had 37 catches in eight games, recording 406 yards and four touchdowns. His ACL tear put an end to his season with the Patriots, but he has enough time to get ready for the new season. The wide receiver averaged 50.8 yards and 4.6 receptions per game. Yes, re-signing him makes perfect sense for the team.

If Kraft wants Bourne back, he will have to cope with the fact that Bourne is not a No.1 pass-catcher. He has great talent and enough talent to step in as No.2, but the Patriots still need to find a top WR.

Patriots receivers struggled to perform at a high level and some of them sustained serious injuries.

Kraft is giving the team enough time to get ready for all the major decisions coming their way. New England will look a lot different in 2024 and we don’t really know if Kraft will keep most of his players on the squad.
