Patriots Considered A ‘Landing Spot’ For Projected $74 Million WR

The New England Patriots could be the ideal landing spot for many talented players, including a top WR. The team is rebuilding the roster and they have already moved on head coach Bill Belichick. Letting Belichick go means the Patriots are willing to part ways with pretty much any member of their team. Who is the next to go?

The Patriots need to make a big change at quarterback. Mac Jones and his backup quarterbacks failed to make an impact. In other words, the Patriots will have to add a new name to the roster.

According to analysts, the Patriots may need to work on their receiving unit. The team has Kendrick Bourne, JuJu Schuster-Smith, and DeVante Parker. Each of these players deals with a specific issue.

Pro Football Focus encouraged the Patriots to do an effort and get Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins.

Patriots can get a top WR in the offseason

Cincinnati has to boost the roster as well and they don’t really have a big offseason. They will have to give Ja’Marr Chase what he requested, meaning they have to part ways with Higgins and others.

Higgins may be the best receiving option on the market right now. Of course, we don’t really know that Cincinnati will let him go.

“The Patriots need more wide receiver help than any team in the NFL, so they should be in on every name,” PFF detailed. “New England is flush with cap space and could use the No. 3 overall pick on a quarterback. Putting that quarterback in a similar position as Mac Jones — lacking legitimate wide receiver talent — would be a bad idea.”

PFF offered a bold prediction, suggesting that Higgins can get a franchise tag from the team. He couldn’t make an impact because he couldn’t do it by himself. Joe Burrow’s absence affected the Bengals.

Higgins can get a four-year deal worth up to $74 million. If he doesn’t sign another deal with the Bengals, he will have to look for a home somewhere else.

PFF ranked Higgins No.4 on the free agents list. Is this enough for him to get a big deal in the offseason?

“Injuries hampered almost the entire 2023 season for Higgins after his second consecutive 1,000-yard season in 2022 with a receiving grade above 75.0. A franchise tag already seemed likely heading into this season, and with little new data to impact the negotiation either way, that seems inevitable.”
