Lakers Darvin Ham Provides Big Update On $33 Million Free Agent

The Los Angeles Lakers will get a talented free agent signee back on the floor again. Gabe Vincent has been out for 38 games, but he is not ready to see real action with the team.

Dan Woike from LA Times noted that the Lakers have cleared the talented player for non-contact activity.

“[Lakers head coach] Darvin Ham says Gabe Vincent has been cleared for non-contact work,” Woike reported.

Shams Charania from The Athletic provided an update on Vincent’s situation, too.

 “Gabe Vincent is doing more and more on the court,” Charania said on “Run It Back” on March 5. “The Lakers will know more, I think, next week where Gabe Vincent stands. But barring any setbacks, it’s still mid-to-late March that he can get back in the lineup. The Lakers can still use another guard in the backcourt.”

Lakers players will definitely enjoy the much needed boost in their efforts to finish the season with more wins. Vincent averages 5.4 points, 3.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 rebounds while shooting 37.5% from the floor and 11.8% from downtown. When it comes to his shooting from the three-point line, Vincent did 38.8% in the 2022-23 playoffs. Getting him back will definitely elevate the Lakers defense.

Lakers look forward to having the free agent pickup back in action

The Lakers first reported that Vincent will sit out at least 6-8 weeks. He had a successful procedure and the franchise provided the first update on December 27. Vincent last played on December 20.

“You just have to make sure everything is well and good with him and his health first and foremost,” Ham told reporters on December 23. “And then you just try to activate Plan B, which is next man up, so to speak.

“Our No. 1, top priority is just to make sure that we know what’s going on with him, and put him in a position where he can get healthy.”

We have no additional details on Vincent’s role with the Lakers at this point of the season. The play-in tournament is almost here and there isn’t much time to do any calculations.
