New Patriots Running Back Makes Telling Comment On Jerod Mayo

Jerod Mayo is the new head coach for the New England Patriots and one running back is really excited about it. Mayo has big shoes to fill in. Replacing legendary Bill Belichick is the biggest challenge in his professional career. Mayo respects Belichick and his legacy. He respects the Patriots dynasty, but believes that now is the good time for a change. New England looks different and players are excited about the change.

Running back Antonio Gibson joined the Patriots not so long ago and he already has some great words to say for coach Mayo.

“I feel like that’s something that might be a positive thing in a locker room for him to be able to relate and communicate like that,” Gibson said via Doug Kyed from the Boston Herald.

Gibson added that talking to his head coach feels like talking to one of his teammates. I guess Mayo tried best to create this bond with his team.

Mayo won a ring during his eight years as a Patriots linebacker. The team hired him as an assistant coach in 2019 and now he is their head coach. In other words, he has experience and knows the system really well.

Patriots running back excited to work with Mayo

The Patriots are in for big changes and this makes them a desired destination for many players. That’s exactly what brought Gibson to New England. He was eager to join a new group of players and share the football field with young players. Gibson also likes the fact that the Patriots have a new coaching staff.

“I’m super excited about what they’ve got planned,” the Patriots running back said, per Mike Kadlick from WEEI.

The Washington Commanders selected Gibson in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In his four years with the team, the running back rushed for 2,643 yards and 22 touchdowns on 642 carries.

The Patriots gave Gibson a three-year deal worth $11.25 million. He got a big deal and also expects to see a big role with the Patriots.
