Report: Patriots Work Out Two Other Free Agents

The New England Patriots are all about trying out several free agents. Everyone was so surprised when former second-round pick Obi Melifonwu came to town.

But, that was not all. The Patriots also worked out a couple of free agents, and we are waiting for their final decision. If they make any, of course. Tight end Ben Koyack and safety Dexter McColi were also seen in workouts, and this could be a game-changing plot.

Koyack is a former seventh round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Notre Dame in 2015. He played his rookie season on the Jaguars’ active roster, but spent the rest of his career on the practice squad. Koyack played in 30 games in his professional career and was able to total 24 catches for 199 yards and a touchdown.

McCoil went undrafted in 2013 and bounced around the CFL. He had a solid career north of the boarder after winning the Grey Cup in 2015. McCoil was the CFL All Star in 2014 and the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie in that year. When it comes to his NFL experience, McCoil played with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2016 and was active in all 16 games for the team. He made two starts and recorded 25 tackles, five passes defended and an interception.
McCoil was waived by Los Angeles last year, and joined the San Francisco 49ers.

These two players should be considered emergency options for the team or maybe the practice squad.

Obi Melifonwu is the most talented and the most intriguing player of the group. The former second round pick was released by the Raiders and now is making rounds of visits with different NFL teams. He was also seen visiting the Dallas Cowboys, but all bets are on the New England Patriots. There is a great chance that the Pats land Melifonwu.
