John Cena Addresses Gronkowski’s WWE Rumors

Before becoming one of the most recognizable WWE superstars of all-time, Cena grew up in Massachusetts and like anyone in the area is a Patriots fan. As he’s risen to fame, one thing that John Cena admires most about the Patriots is their ability to maintain their success for as long as they have, being a legitimate Super Bowl contender for the better part of two-decades.

“I love the long-lens aspect of success over the long term,” Cena told ESPN during a recent interview. “Time under tension. When you’re good, you can have a good season and be forgotten. When you’re good over a long period of time, that’s amazing. And when you’re good under a long period of time when the circumstances and the element is not supposed to allow that to happen, that’s super impressive.”

The Patriots and WWE have been intertwined some over the last few years as speculation has grown about tight end Gronk possibly retiring from the NFL to jump into the ring and join the WWE. The tight end already appeared at WrestleMania a few years back and John Cena believes that he’d slot in nicely as a full-time superstar.

“I think he’d be a great WWE Superstar. I really do,” Cena said. “I think he’s got this unbelievable energy and infectious electricity about him.”

He added: “I think if he wants to take off the pads and step in the arena, I think he’ll feel right at home.”

Last offseason, Gronk mulled retirement following New England’s loss in Super Bowl LII and there was plenty of speculation that suggested he could head towards the WWE. During that time, Gronkwski’s friend and fellow WWE superstar Mojo Rawley noted that it’s a “matter of when” the tight end finally joins the WWE. In that time where Gronkowski was said to be thinking about walking away from the NFL, the WWE was basically waiting at the front door with a contract to bring him aboard if he ultimately decided to put an end to his football career.

Despite deciding to come back for the 2018 season, the WWE most likely will welcome Gronk with open arms if ever he wants to pursue it. That could come sooner rather than later as there have been rumblings throughout the season that these final games for the Patriots could be the last of Gronkowski in the NFL as the tight end is again leaning towards retirement.
