Report: New England Patriots Trade Tight End

The New England Patriots traded tight end Jacob Hollister to the Seattle Seahawks. The team will get a seventh-rounder in 2020.

Hollister has been part of the Patriots family since 2017. The team signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming. The tight end had a bump in production last season. Hollister struggled with injuries, and he had eight catches for 94 yards in 2018. According to the team, he played in just eight regular season games.

Rob Gronkowski decided to retire, and Dwayne Allen inked a deal with the Miami Dolphins. Hollister was planned to be the elder statesman of the tight end squad for the Patriots. However, he will play with the Seahawks now, and will join Nick Vannett and Tyrone Swoopes.

It was more than obvious that Hollister may go somewhere else, especially after the team signed Matt LaCosse in the offseason.

Hollister will become a restricted free agent after the 2019 season. If he proves to be a viable tight end, he may be in line for a nice salary as he is 25 years old. According to experts, this is a low-risk move for Seattle as they are getting a cheap weapon-player for Russell Wilson.

When it comes to the Patriots, they are still building the dept at tight end position. The tight end unit consists of Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Stephen Anderson, Matt LaCosse, Ryan Izzo and Andrew Beck. There are too many players on the 90-man roster, but they still lack a talented player. There won’t be another Gronk, and everyone knows that. He left a big void on the roster, and some players still hope to see him back on the field. Seferian-Jenkins is an intriguing prospect heading into next year, however analysts still doubt the possibility that he becomes a finished product at the tight end position.

The Patriots are off to another strong year. 2018 wasn’t their best year, but they managed to win the Super Bowl. Critics slammed the team every day, but the Patriots did it. They have a really good chance to win the next championship as well. Let’s see if that happens.
