Golden State Warriors Decide On Bob Myers’ Future With The Team

The Golden State Warriors will have to do a few important decisions this summer, and they plan on bringing a few familiar players in the front office.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reported that the Golden State has reached terms on a multi-year contract extension with president of basketball operations Bob Myers. The front office also reached terms on a new multi-year deal with president and chief operating officer Rick Welts, a Naismith Memorial Baksetball Hall of Fame inductee. Welts has been part of the team since 2011.

“The two new contacts cement Golden State’s leadership structure for the next several seasons as the Warriors prepare to move into the new Chase Center in San Francisco next season,” Stein reported.

Myers and Welts played an important role in the team, and the Warriors enjoyed their services. The team has made five straight NBA Finals and won three of them.

Myers joined the team as an assistant general manager in April 2011, and got a bigger role a year later. He brought Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder and signed him in free agency in 2016.

This summer, Myers will have to try really hard to re-sign Durant.

“I don’t believe there’s anybody to blame, but I understand in this world and if you have to, you can blame me,” Myers said after the Warriors’ loss in the NBA Finals. “I run our basketball operations department. And to tell you something about Kevin Durant, Kevin Durant loves to play basketball, and the people that questioned whether he wanted to get back to this team were wrong.

“Prior to him coming back, he went through four weeks with our medical team. It was thorough with multiple experts and multiple doctors and multiple MRIs. And we felt good about the process. He was cleared to play tonight. That was a collaborative decision.

“He’s one of the most misunderstood people. He’s a good teammate, he’s a good person, it’s not fair. I’m lucky to know him.”

Myers was really moved by Durant’s injury, and he couldn’t even control his emotions while talking to media members.
