Report: Mike Conley Trade Could Lead To Kyle Korver Joining Lakers

The Mike Conley trade deal will give the Los Angeles Lakers a big headache. Conley is joining Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Godbert, and the trio will make the Utah Jazz one of the best teams in the Western Conference next season. Is this a threat to the Lakers? Of course. However, analysts say that this deal may give the Lakers an opportunity, and it includes Kyle Korver.

The Jazz released traded away three veterans to get Conley. The team didn’t need Jae Crowder and Grayson Allen. Korver is one of the best shooters of all time. But, at 38, he can’t really rebuild the Memphis Grizzlies team. His $7.5 million salary doesn’t make him tradeable either.

Many teams would love to get Korver, but he is limited in terms of defense. Korver can’t play extended minutes at this age despite the fact that his shooting is impeccable.

The Grizzlies won’t have to pay the entire salary. The team guarantees $3.44 million, and they may actually waive him and save $4 million. We don’t really think that the Grizzlies will do that, but those millions could sure give them a younger asset.

The Grizzlies won’t try to reach the playoffs next season, and keeping Korver won’t be in their plans. The team needs a younger player.

If Korver becomes free agent, the Lakers better get him. He grew up in LA and was a big fan of the Lakers throughout his childhood. His playoff success came with King James as he made the NBA Finals in back-to-back seasons with the Cavaliers. LeBron is a Laker at the moment, and needs more shooters to build a strong game. If the franchise manages to sign shooters, they will definitely have a big chance to win the championship next year.

Korver needs a ring. He made a lot of money through his career and made the fourth-most three-point shots in NBA history. If Korver is interested in winning a championship, he will have to join the Lakers. LA needs a ring-chasing veteran who shoots well. Is Korver the best fit? You can bet he is.
