Report: Anthony Davis Makes Decision On Playing For Team USA

Anthony Davis should no longer be considered an option for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup as he removed his name from the list of options. The information was confirmed by Chris Haynes of Yahoo. Davis did this to give himself more time and prepare for the upcoming season.

Davis joined the Lakers with one goal. He is determined to help LeBron James and the rest of the guys win a title. Team USA comes packed with a lot of competition. The World Cup is played in China, and superstars see it as an opportunity to present their skills. It’s an excellent marketing opportunity. However, Nike’s stars with the Lakers, Davis and LeBron, will skip the event in order to focus on the team and their game on the floor.

LeBron is a three-time Olympian. He won gold in 2008 and 2012 and bronze in 2004. Davis joined LeBron on the 2012 Olympic team and won the 2014 World Cup for Team USA. Both superstars are gold medalist, and there’s almost no need for them to compete internationally at this point of their career. LeBron hasn’t denied the possibility that he plays in the Olympics next offseason, and the chance to work alongside Gregg Popovich may be appealing to him. Well, that won’t happen this time as both LeBron and Davis have decided to put their focus on the Lakers.

The Lakers may be represented on Team USA. Kyle Kuzma was chosen as part of the team’s 20-man training camp roster, and there’s a huge chance that he makes the final 12-man group based on the activities on the floor. If he becomes part of it, the Lakers will have five players on their roster who have been playing in the Team USA at some point of their career.

DeMarcus Cousins won a gold medal in 2016. Rajon Rondo attended camps several years ago, but left the prematurely.

Davis tried really hard to sign a deal with the Lakers. The franchise tried before the trade deadline, but the negotiations didn’t end too well. Hopefully, the Lakers made a good decision. It has to be a good decision.
