List Of Patriots Players That Won’t Play In Preseason Opener Against Lions

The New England Patriots will have their preseason opener on Thursday in the game against the Detroit Lions. The teams had three joint practices in Detroit, and from what we could see, some players won’t suit up for the game.

If you check out the pregame warmups, you’d notice that the following players won’t play since they weren’t even wearing uniforms.

Meredith, Cajuste, Webster and Ebner weren’t in town this week. Thomas and Edelman were in Detroit, but they weren’t wearing uniforms.

Wednesday’s walk-through is also a nice indicator. According to it, the following players will skip the preseason opener.

WR Julian Edelman (NFI), WR Josh Gordon (suspended), WR Cameron Meredith (PUP), WR Demaryius Thomas (PUP), OT Yodny Cajuste (non-football injury list), CB Ken Webster (PUP) and SS Nate Ebner (physically unable to perform list).

QB Tom Brady, RB Rex Burkhead, RB Sony Michel, RB James White, WR Matthew Slater, LT Isaiah Wynn, LG Joe Thuney, C David Andrews, RG Shaq Mason, RT Marcus Cannon, DE Michael Bennett, DT Lawrence Guy, LB Dont’a Hightower, LB Kyle Van Noy, CB Stephon Gilmore, CB Jonathan Jones, CB Jason McCourty, FS Devin McCourty, and SS Patrick Chung.

This will be the match you don’t want to miss. It will be an excellent opportunity to see present and former Patriots hit the field together. Danny Amendola is now playing with the Lions, and he has nothing but words of praise for his former teammates, including Brady.

“Nah, he can play forever,” the former Patriots wide receiver said with a smile. “He’s a great quarterback. He’s in great shape, great condition, obviously, and I’m excited to see him.

“He works extremely hard and is very deserving for all he’s got. I’m happy for him. He’s a good friend, so any time I get to watch him play football is good.”

However, Amendola will be joined by a bunch of former Patriots in Detroit. Will they take down Brady and his team?

“A lot of familiar faces,” he added. “But luckily it’s a lot of good football players, so we get to get good work in and try to get better here in camp, run around a bit and try to get ready for the season. I’m excited they’re here.”
