Watch: Stephen Curry Surprises Fans By Playing In Oakland Pick-Up Game

NBA veteran Dell Curry didn’t want his son to be part of the Golden State Warriors. He told the franchise not to select Curry. Stephen didn’t want to be Warrior. The team didn’t really want him. They didn’t need him. But, they chose Curry over Monta Ellis and traded Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks in March of 2012.

Curry proved everyone wrong. How did he win the hearts of Oakland fans?

“After breaking out in the 2012-13 season and going wild in the 2013 playoffs, leading the Warriors to a first-round upset of the third-seeded Nuggets before putting a serious scare into the Spurs in the conference semifinals, Curry’s status as Oakland’s adopted son was established. Three championships and two MVPs later, that player-city relationship has been cemented as one of the strongest in all of sports, and it has made the Warriors’ move to San Francisco — set for this coming season — all the more emotional.

“That said, Curry is going to love and rep Oakland as long as he lives, and vice versa, in part because he has always made it a point to not just put his name and face on things, but to show up and be one with the people. Curry did so again on Sunday when he and his wife, Ayesha, made a surprise appearance at Bay Area rapper Mistah F.A.B.’s basketball block party in Oakland and played in the pick-up hoops tournament.”

Curry respects the true Oakland style. Everyone wanted to play with him. He is the champion.

Curry is getting ready to hit the new season with his team. He will have to start the season without Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and the rest of the guys who left the team. Thompson will be back in February, and the rest of the guys are gone for good.

The Warriors changed their roster this season, and they are full of optimism for the upcoming season. They have a new arena, and it will be a real motivation for the players. Curry will use the help of his new teammates, and they are off to another big race.
