LeBron James Talks About The Key To Lakers Success

In the three games of the regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers limited their opponents to an average of 99.6 points per game. They had 112 with the Los Angeles Clippers during the opening night loss, and then allowed 86 and 101 to the Utah Jazz and Charlotte Hornets. Following the big win on Sunday, LeBron talked about the Lakers’ desire to construct an identity on the defensive end of the floor.

“Defense will create the best offense for you,” LeBron said following the Lakers 120-101 win over the Hornets. “We have a bunch of defensive-minded guys. Dwight has been a defensive player of the year, JaVale has been always been very good defensively, AD as well, Avery, Danny was first team all-defense last year. I’ve been on a couple defensive teams as well, KCP has always been solid, Rondo when he comes back.

“Everyone is just buying into that. If we can do that, just be on a string throughout the game, that will just create better offense for us. We know who we are, we have a long way to go to get to where we want to be. But it starts with our mentality defensively. It starts with our physicality.”

LA held Charlotte to 38% from the field and hold them to 28% from three-point range. This looks like a tea who may defend the rim at a high rate moving forward. In three games, Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard combine for 17 blocks between them. JaVale McGee was great on the interior.

As a squad, the Lakers lead the NBA with an average of eight blocks per game. They rank No. 4 in opposing team’s points in the paint at 41.3. If the Lakers plan to stay on the top in the league in these categories, they will have to try really hard and play physical bigs on the inside. This will help them become who they want to become.

This is a really big season for everybody, and every NBA team dreams of winning the title. Most of them have restructured the roster, and we all know what that means.
