Report: Browns Interviewing Patriots Executive For GM Opening

Head coach Bill Belichick was able to keep Josh McDaniels in New England for the upcoming season, but it looks like another Patriots employee may end up running the front office of the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland has an interview with Patriots director of college scouting Monti Ossenfort for their general manager position Friday. The information was confirmed by a report from NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

Ossenfort has spent 15 years with the New England Patriots, and he had several roles. The organization first hired him as a personnel assistant in 2003. Ossenfort has been in his current position since 2014 after spending three seasons as the Patriots’ assistant director of college scouting and another three as a national scout. He was also part of the Houston Texans organization.

The Texans wanted to interview Ossenfort for their general manager position in 2018, but the Patriots blocked their request.

Cleveland looks for a new general manager after breaking the ties with John Dorsey after the season. The organization also fired coach Freddie Kitchens and hired former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski. He was hired instead of McDaniels and other candidates for the position.

Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio and director of pro personnel Dave Ziegler were also viewed as candidates in the past period.

New England missed the chance to win another title with their wild-card loss to the Tennessee Titans. Coach Belichick said his team is on to 2020, and these changes prove that they are serious about the upcoming season. Wideout Julian Edelman said something similar, and hopefully, his arrest won’t affect his role with the Patriots next season. The Patriots will try to fix the mistakes they made in 2019, and they really need to boost the offense.

Tom Brady didn’t have his best season, but it wasn’t his fault. Belichick needs to give him a stronger offense. There are a few players he should consider adding to the team. New England will do things differently in September. We really hope that Brady will join the team for another season. They need his skills and work ethic.
