Troy Aikman Explains Why Tom Brady Won’t Play QB for Cowboys

Tom Brady may become a free agent in March, and there’s a theory about him going to Dallas. According to Troy Aikman, Tom Brady won’t join the Dallas Cowboys.

Aikman pointed to Brady’s age, suggesting that a 43-year-old quarterback can’t replace Dak Prescott.

“I wouldn’t think so,” the Hall-of-Famer and current FOX broadcaster said Sunday. “I love Tom. He could go help some teams, but there’s not a lot of teams in need of a quarterback who are wanting to build around a 41-year-old.”

Terrell Owens spread the theory, and Michael Irvin planted the idea. The wideout shared what he heard from “some very significant people.”

“I am telling you right now, at the Super Bowl in Miami, some very significant people that I had conversations (with were) leaning in that same direction,” he said. “It was shocking. I had a vodka cranberry in my hand and when they said it to me I put the drink down and said, ‘Let’s talk a little bit more about this.’ I promise you, I had a conversation with people, I can’t tell you who, about that same scenario going down. I just don’t know if there’s a real possibility of that happening.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasn’t able to reach a long-term deal with Prescott. There was no progress in this relationship, and money has nothing to do with it.

Vice President Stephen Jones dashed the hope of getting the star quarterback.

“Not even a thought,” Jones said last month. “We’re so, so all in on Dak. [Mike McCarthy] is so all-in on Dak. He’s so convicted that [Dak’s] the guy that can help us win championships. He’s putting together a great staff to support him.”

Adam Schefter linked Brady with the Las Vegas Raiders, and Ian Rapoport mentions the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Cowboys will probably hit the franchise tag on Prescott if they don’t reach an agreement with the player. Prescott rejected a $33-million offer. It looks like he is trying to surpass Russell Wilson and his $35 million per season.

Aikman believes that the Cowboys would do everything to keep Prescott on the roster.

“I would think the Cowboys want to get a deal done. I know Dak wants to get a done deal,” he said. “When you have two parties that want something to happen, then something will. I said it the other day: I’d be surprised if he’s playing under a franchise tag. It certainly could happen, but I think both sides are motivated to see it through.”
