Magic Johnson Reveals LeBron James Edge Over Giannis Antetokounmpo in MVP Race

Former Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson shared his take on the NBA MVP award and made a pick between LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Would you be surprised to see Johnson join LeBron’s team? Of course not. Magic Johnson recruited LeBron to the Lakers in 2018. According to him, King James is the ultimate winner of this award.

The NBA legend appeared in an episode of ESPN’s “The Jump,” and talked to Rachel Nichols about LeBron’s chances to win the prestigious award.

“LeBron affects the game in so many different ways, and this year he’s almost averaging a triple-double,” he started. “And when you think about the way he’s played defense, and last but not least, the way he’s been an incredible leader. He has really brought those guys together and kept them going. LeBron himself also is on a mission. He wants to show people that he can go from Cleveland to the Lakers and win a championship, and especially with all the history that the Lakers have. I think LeBron has played unbelievable this season, and really took Anthony Davis’ game to a whole ‘nother level. I’m really impressed with LeBron.”

Johnson knows that LeBron James is the 2020 NBA MVP

Magic Johnson supported his statement with a few good reasons. Many NBA fans would agree with him on this one.

Giannis had a really good season with the Milwaukee Bucks, and Johnson knows that. The Lakers legend wouldn’t be surprised to see Giannis snatch the award. But, LeBron James is definitely getting his vote.

“Giannis, no question, he’s having an incredible season. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was named the MVP,” Johnson added. “But LeBron James in my mind has definitely won the MVP — in my mind.”

Tracy McGrady and Scottie Pippen took part in Nichols’ interview with Magic. It was an interesting argument, and the NBA greats made a few interesting moments. LeBron and his teammates will give the Lakers their award. If you ask Johnson and the other icons, they will say that LeBron and Giannis should both get the award. Split it in half maybe.
