Patriots Host Massive Former Chiefs NT for Tryout

The New England Patriots have hosted a former Chiefs NT for a tryout. They aren’t even close to being done filling their roster.

The first is an armed forces veteran and pass rusher turned tight end Paul Quessenberry. However, the more exciting one was a big part of City Chiefs’ Super Bowl squad in 2019. He could come in as a big run-stuffing NT if everything works out.

The Patriots had the 6’2″ 309-pound Xavier Williams in to tryout. He is actually from Kansas City and spend the last two seasons with the Chiefs. He played for a total of 5 games in 2019. Williams did still get a championship ring, however.

During the 2019 season, Williams had a total of eight tackles and a forced fumble. He did have a much bigger role in 2018, though. He played in all 16 games and even started in four of them. Williams had a total of 47 tackles, 2.5 sacks, forcing a fumble, and one quarterback hit.

Williams spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals before making his way to Kansas City.

The Patriots are doing everything they can to get back on track after a lackluster 2019 season. They failed to even make the playoffs and lost their legendary quarterback Tom Brady.

They signed Cam Newton in the off season who is expected to be the starter. Coach Bill Belichick talked about what he has seen in Newton so far.

“He’s worked very hard, I’d say, as all of our players have,” Belichick said. “I’d say that certainly for all the quarterbacks, at that position, those guys have been locked in, focused and confident in what they’re able to do and the information they have to give to the team — playcalling, adjustments, audibles, protection adjustments, things like that. That’s all going pretty well.”

These are some good signs coming out of the Patriots training camp. Hopefully they will be able to pick up some of these guys who could have a huge impact on the roster moving forward.
