Patriots Insider Shares Telling Update On The Quarterback Competition

The New England Patriots will have the most important quarterback competition in the team history. Tom Brady decided to put an end to his time with the Patriots and went south, joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady won’t re-join the Patriots because he signed a two-year deal with the Bucs. In other words, he will probably finish his career as a Bucs quarterback.

The Patriots had second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham on the roster. Veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer is the perfect mentor. Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t select a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. Many thought that Stidham would go under center. The arrival of former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton changed everything.

The Patriots have started off training camp, and Newton is doing a really good job. According to some experts, he is an inch closer to getting the Patriots’ starting quarterback job in September.

The Patriots may have a different approach to the quarterback competition

Coach Belichick admitted that the team may rely on a multi-quarterback system.

“I always say I’ll do what’s best for the team, what gives us the best chance to win,” the head coach said. “Whatever that is, I would certainly consider that…If it helps us win, I would consider anything.”

Stidham has been sidelined due to an injury and Newton moves closer to center. The 2015 NFL MVP “heavily controlled” the practice reps on Sunday.

The best part comes when you realize that Newton and veteran wideot Julian Edelman have built a good relationship. NFL games rely on quarterback-wideout duos, and the Patriots need to focus on that. Edelman had a perfect relationship with Brady and they helped the Patriots win many games. The veteran wideout will be catching passes from another quarterback. He and Newton connected on a few passes on Sunday.

Some analysts reported that Belichick will use Hoyer or Stidham to open the season. Newton may change his mind. He didn’t really need too much time to adjust to the Patriots system. Newton is a NFL MVP, remember? He knows what it takes to win a game. He helped the Carolina Panthers make the Super Bowl in 2015.
