Cam Newton Gives Honest Assessment Of His Play This Season

Cam Newton has come out and given himself an honest assessment of his play so far this season. The New England Patriots have not been very impressive so far, especially since the positive COVID 19 tests. It started when quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for the virus a few weeks back. But the Patriots have been trying to get back on track ever since.

Head coach Bill Belichick talked about what they have been trying to do to get back on track recently. Have a look at what he said.

“Today’s an important day in our preparation for the Broncos,” Belichick said. “We’ve had several days now of virtual meetings between the staff members and from the staff to the players. We’ve been able to cover a lot of things, but we haven’t spent any time together, so today’s our opportunity to do that. We look forward to that. One thing that we’ve learned this year repeatedly has been we have to be ready to adjust and adapt to changes and modifications and the way we do things and, in some cases, decisions that really come down to a very short amount of time that we have to be ready to adjust to.”

“So we’re certainly taking things day by day — probably hour by hour would be more accurate. We’ll just see how we progress and then as we find out more on our end, or if there are other things externally that we can’t control that, then we’ll deal with those as they come. That’s the way it’s been all year. I think our team and our players have done a good job of handling those adjustments, and we’ll continue to do that.”

But with the poor play comes some honesty. Cam Newton was asked about his play so far this season. He did not hold back on what he thought.

“I just haven’t been — I just haven’t been good,” Newton said via video conference Thursday. “I haven’t matched enough good plays together for my liking and that is what it comes down to.”

“When I mean good plays, I mean right reads, I mean ball positioning, I mean making guys miss, just the whole gamut of how I play. I know what I am capable of and my standard is extremely high and I haven’t been meeting it — my personal standard. That’s how I feel.”
