Magic Johnson Wants Young NBA Star To Join The Lakers For Upcoming Season

Magic Johnson made some really wild moves during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bringing LeBron James to Los Angeles was probably the best thing Johnson ever did in the front office. He made some unexpected statements in the past. Remember when he said he would pick Brandon Knight with the No.1 overall pick in a season where Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson and Kemba Walker were available? He also tried to recruit Brooklyn Nets Kevin Durant. Johnson had his eyes on DeMar DeRozan, too.

Johnson decided to step down as the president of basketball operations in LA in 2019 because of the criticism he received for tampering with other superstars. The team received hefty fines for that. Johnson earned a $500,000 fine for trying to recruit Paul George during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Magic Johnson may have a serious offer for the Lakers

The NBA legend is not part of a team right now and he can do whatever he wants. Johnson can easily recruit other players for the Los Angeles Lakers. This time he may be going after Luka Doncic.

Johnson went on ESPN’s First Take and discussed about Anthony Davis’ potential departure from the Lakers.

“Anthony Davis now is known across the world because of the platform of the Lakers, and then him and LeBron next season, they could repeat,” he said. “You don’t want to leave here, and not have a guy like LeBron James playing alongside of you because the same thing that happened in New Orleans would happen to Anthony Davis again. They make each other better, and then last but not least, when LeBron retires, he just says, ‘here Anthony Davis, it’s your team now, you go on and lead the Lakers to the next five to six championships.'”

Max Kellerman was the first to mention Doncic, and explained that LA may need to pair Doncic with Davis once LeBron James retires.

It looks like Johnson liked the idea a lot.

“Luka come over to the Lakers!” he said. “I like that. I like that.”

The Dallas Mavericks will sure try to think this through. Doncic has become an important player and his success has reached a greater heights.

In his first two years in the NBA, Doncic has won the Rookie of the Year, was named an All-Star starter, and was selected to the All-NBA first team. Doncic is the second-youngest player to earn a spot in the top five of MVP voting in league history.
