Patriots Injury Report: Cam Newton Full Go, Key Defender Absent

The New England Patriots activated veteran quarterback Cam Newton off the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday night. The team didn’t add Newton to Thursday’s injury report, meaning that he was a full participant in the session. According to reports, Newton will join his team for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos at Gillette Stadium. But, the Patriots will probably play without defense end Deatrich Wise. The Patriots reported that the key defender was absent.

Wise didn’t show up for practice, and his absence wasn’t related to an injury. Team reports suggest that Wise would not have practiced Wednesday. The Patriots have yet to provide an update on his status.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman (knee), offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn (calf), guard Shaq Mason (calf), and defensive tackle Adam Butler (shoulder) were limited in practice.

Patriots provide details on the defender and other players who were absent

Offensive linemen Jermaine Eluemunor and James Ferentz didn’t show up on the injury report. The Patriots had listed them as “DNP-not injury-related” on Wednesday’s practice reports.

The Broncos had running Melvin Gordon back in practice. He skipped Wednesday’s session after being charged with DUI late Tuesday night. Will the NFL suspend him for Sunday’s game? Denver quarterback Drew Lock was a full participant.

The NFL is dealing with a major problem right now. The coronavirus pandemic had changed the schedule, and many teams had their games rescheduled. Patriots’ game against Denver was rescheduled twice. Hopefully, the situation won’t escalate in the next few days. A few positive tests can change the course of the regular season.
