Bill Belichick Claims Adjustments Will Be Made if Needed With Cam Newton’s Injury

The New England Patriots are dealing with quite a situation right now. The team added veteran quarterback Cam Newton to the injury report Wednesday, and fans started asking questions. Should we start asking questions about Newton’s status for the upcoming came against the Los Angeles Chargers? Patriots head coach Bill Belichick provided an update on the potential adjustments related to Newton’s injury.

On Tuesday, reporters asked Belichick about Newton’s injury and his status for Week 13. The Patriots listed the veteran as limited participant in Wednesday’s injury report due to an abdominal injury.

“We’ll update it throughout the week here, and depending on how it goes, if there’s an adjustment we need to make, we’ll make it,” coach Belichick said.

Bill Belichick to work on possible adjustments

Newton started 10 of the 11 regular-season games New England had. He missed one game after testing positive for coronavirus. Newton, veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore and a few other Patriots players ended up on the reserve/COVID-19 list. This struggle with COVID-19 affected Newton’s performance on the field.

The Patriots won three of the past four games and have a 5-6 record at this point of the regular season. The team doesn’t really have a good chance to make the playoffs. But, head coach Belichick and his team can do the impossible. They may win each of the remaining five games on the schedule. New England has three road games and a couple of home games to finish the season.

Newton’s abdominal injury doesn’t seem like a serious issue right now. Belichick is pretty convinced that Newton should be the Patriots starting quarterback for the season.

If Newton stays on the sidelines on Sunday, Belichick will probably use Jarrett Stidham. Both Stidham and Brian Hoyer struggled in limited action this season. Hoyer started the game against the Kansas City Chiefs when Newton was placed on the covid list. However, Belichick benched him and used Stidham as a better replacement. He wasn’t really a better replacement.

The 2015 NFL MVP has four passing touchdowns against nine interceptions in 2020. He also has a passer rating of 79.8. New England averages 20.8 points per game, ranking 27th in the league. The passing offense ranks 29th in the NFL.
