Frank Vogel Addresses on Who Will be Lakers Starting Point Guard on Opening Night

The Los Angeles Lakers will have to make a few decisions regarding the rotations in the 2020-21 NBA season. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel will have the final word regarding the starting point guard. He is more than excited to put his newly-signed player in the position. Dennis Schroder can easily handle this role and give LeBron James a hand on the floor.

“I haven’t made any final decisions on that. It’s definitely something I want to look at,” Vogel said. “See how he and LeBron look together sharing the ballhandling responsibilities.”

The Lakers head coach shared the reasons he had to use the German native.

“I think there’s real value in lightening some of the load for LeBron, not all of it,” Vogel said. “The great thing about Dennis is that he’s very effective with the basketball or on the second side, attacking on the second side. I really like the speed he represents, even running the floor if LeBron is your quarterback, and you have guys like KCP (Kentavious Caldwell-Pope), Kuz (Kyle Kuzma), Wes Matthews, obviously AD (Anthony Davis) at the big position, running the floor with LeBron running the break as the quarterback. So there’s a lot of things that theoretically look good that we just haven’t seen a lot of, and we’ll make those decisions when the time comes. But definitely something I want to look at that I believe will work.”

Is Schroder the next Lakers starting point guard?

The Lakers got Schroder from the Oklahoma City Thunder in November. He was more than positive about his role on the roster. Schroder wants to join the Lakers starting lineup and Vogel will probably take this into consideration.

Vogel has already said something similar earlier this month. He wants to have Schroder and LeBron on the court at the same time of the game.

Schroder was a scoring outlet in his previous seasons in the league. Even if he doesn’t join the starting lineup for the regular-season opener, Vogel can easily change the setup.

LeBron will be surrounded with a group of talented players. Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol, Wesley Matthews and many others will do their best to help the Lakers win another title. Anthony Davis will take a leading role and we can already see the franchise celebrate back-to-back titles.
