Patriots Advised to Make Bold Draft-Day Trade for Rookie Quarterback

Head coach Bill Belichick will have to make a big decision in the upcoming period. The New England Patriots lost every chance they had to make the playoffs. NFL fans are already focused on the 2021 NFL Draft. When it comes to draft picks, the Patriots may go after a rookie quarterback. Sort of.

The 2021 NFL Draft has Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields, BYU’s Zach Wilson, and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance. Truth is, all four prospects may be gone in the first 10 picks of the NFL Draft.

Eric Eager from Pro Football Focus believes that the Patriots may pull out an aggressive plan and trade for some of the best rookies.

It’s a realistic scenario. Let’s not forget that Belichick won’t really use too many assets to trade up and get a top prospect.

Patriots to trade for a top quarterback prospect

Experts predict that by the time the NFL Draft rolls around, Wilson will have supplanted Fields as a No.2 quarterback on most draft boards. Lawrence will go at No.1 to the New York Jets. Wilson will probably be N0.2 on draft boards. Some teams may call the Jacksonville Jaguars or any other team to see what it would take to fit in that position.

Fields may impress a NFL team between the fifth and seventh picks overall. We can’t really say much about Lance because of all the topics related to his level of opposition and overall experience. He is an athletic player with great leadership skills.

If Belichick wants any of these guys, he will have to trade up. New England will probably go for a pick in the mid-teens or as high as 12th. In other words, the Patriots don’t really have a chance to draft any of the top quarterback prospects.

Kyle Task from Florida and Mac Jones from Alabama are considered first-round talents.

Coach Belichick knows how to make the best move and pick his best option. These reports suggest that the Patriots won’t keep veteran quarterback Cam Newton under center in 2021.
