Watch: Bill Belichick Announce Quarterback Decision

The New England Patriots broke the winning streak and lost the match to the Los Angeles Rams. It was an awful 24-3 loss, and veteran quarterback Cam Newton had a bad performance. Someone had the courage to ask head coach Bill Belichick about his quarterback decision, and his reaction was priceless. The legendary coach had the perfect reaction to these questions. He always does.

When asked if he was going to replace Newton with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham, the Patriots head coach provided a quick and definite response. Guess what… Belichick didn’t even allow Mike Reiss from ESPN to finish the question.

“Yeah, great question Mike, really glad you asked that, Cam’s our quarterback,” Belichick said.

Ben Volin from The Boston Globe pressed Belichick with a follow-up question. The Patriots head coach didn’t step back.

“He’s our quarterback. Think I just answered that one, Ben.” Typical Belichick response.

Patriots players see themselves as a running team. Newton provides great game with his legs, giving everyone a chance to win more games. New England doesn’t have “standout players” at their skill positions. All they can do is lean on the offense and their running backs. Newton was also expected to pull out his “smashmouth football.”

New England had a good chance to win more games this season. They did it six times. What about Thursday’s game? It was terrible. We don’t really know if Belichick plans to use his second-year quarterback. Stidham has arm talent and can move around. But the Patriots don’t have the right wideouts and tight ends for him. Maybe this is the reason Belichick had to stick with Newton.

Let’s just say that the 2015 NFL MVP wasn’t miserable Thursday night. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels should have made some changes to the offense. Aaron Donald and his teammates were able to predict every move McDaniels’ offense made. New England can’t win games with a predictable offense.

Newton threw 15 passes in three quarters and completed nine of them for 116 yards. The Patriots had the best plays down the field. The starting quarterback had completions of 19, 17, 31, and 30 yards.
