Patriots Are Reportedly Signing Veteran NFL Cornerback

The New England Patriots will miss the playoffs this season and head coach Bill Belichick is already thinking of the upcoming season. He is expected to make a few changes in the offseason. The Patriots have already made some and now they are signing a veteran cornerback.

Belichick will do his best to improve the roster and address some of the problems his team had in 2020. Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that the Patriots plan to sign cornerback Dee Virgin. The Los Angeles Rams released the veteran a few days ago.

The Patriots are signing the cornerback for a reason

Virgin played with Bill O’Brien and Matt Patricia. These two have been connected with Belichick and know his system pretty well. Both O’Brien and Patricia probably gave Belichick a good scouting report on the cornerback. The West Alabama product was really great during his time on the field.

The NFL’s COVID-19 protocols don’t allow Virgin to play in the final game against the New York Jets. But, he still has a chance to make the Week 1 roster for the upcoming season.

Belichick and his staff can sure do wonders with all the diamonds they find in the rough. Truth is, Virgin can easily become an impact player on the Patriots special teams in 2021.

New England had a terrible season and Belichick could really use some star power. Virgin may not be the solution to all the problems New England has right now, but adding him sure helps.

Belichick will have to find the right signal caller for the 2021 season. He had veteran quarterback Cam Newton under center in 2020. Newton had a lot of struggles too and his passing games was pretty low.

The Patriots will also have to add depth to the defensive line. The team will have a really long offseason this time. They will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Let’s see how will the Patriots handle the upcoming challenges. Tom Brady is out for good and Newton may be on his way out of the team. 2020 was a failure and 2021 will be much better for the team.
