Report: Patriots Named Potential Landing Spot for Former No. 1 Pick

The New England Patriots will have to address their quarterback situation in the upcoming offseason. There are a few great options for the franchise. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton failed to meet the expectations, and Jarrett Stidham may get a better chance in 2021. Matthew Stafford is also part of the story. Some have added a former No.1 overall pick to Bill Belichick’s list. It looks like the Patriots are the perfect landing spot for one particular player.

B/R Gridiron added the Patriots to Jameis Winston’s list of suitors. He has a few awesome options, including the Washington Football Team, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints.

NFL experts weren’t too excited about Winston’s signing with the Patriots. These two didn’t really match in the past. However, the Patriots may be looking for a young quarterback. The 2015 No.1 pick will try to get his very own fresh start, and he may be interested in signing with the Patriots. Let’s not forget that Winston turned 27 in January.

Patriots may be a good landing spot for Winston

Winston has the perfect arm talent to give Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels enough material to work with. In this way, McDaniels will have unrestricted set of plays to call in 2021. Winston will have to protect the ball and limit his risky throws. But, we have every right to say that he will be pretty successful with the Patriots.

Returning to the Saints makes a good opportunity though. Winston was next in line to take Drew Brees’ spot following his retirement. But, in 2020, Brees sustained an injury and the Saints used Tayson Hill instead of Winston.

Winston may not be a fan of this new role, and he may opt for another option. The talented player was allowed to throw 11 passes in 2020 and completed 7 of these for 75 yards. He didn’t throw a pick and this was some sort of a problem for him. The Patriots will have to be careful in the offseason. They need to make the right move in the next couple of months.
