Report: Coach Bill Belichick Will Be “Real Aggressive” in Trade for Elite Quarterback

The New England Patriots will have to take a different approach this season. Head coach Bill Belichick brought veteran Cam Newton in New England last summer, and it looks like he will trade for elite quarterback this year. The Patriots missed the playoffs and it’s more than obvious that Belichick is ready for a change. This doesn’t change the fact that the head coach likes Newton and everything he brings to the field. But, Newton’s passing numbers weren’t that great. New England didn’t have enough weapons for Newton.

What about Deshaun Watson? The brilliant quarterback has attracted the attention of many NFL teams. Belichick is definitely a fan.

New England has great plans for the quarterback position. They may turn back to Newton. That wouldn’t really bad. Getting Watson is a better option thought.

Bill Belichick to trade for the best quarterback option on the market

NFL general manager and current ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum believes that the Patriots head coach will be “real aggressive” if and when the Texans quarterback becomes available. Tannenbaum went on ESPN’s Get Up on Monday and discussed the possibility. Host Mike Greenberg asked if Belichick’s great relationship with newly-hired Texans general manager Nick Caserio would ease the trade for Watson.

“Absolutely,” Tannenbaum said. “And Bill Belichick, what is he? He’s opportunistic. So, if he had to give up multiple first-round picks, maybe a really good player, they have a couple they can move from, that if they can get Deshaun Watson, it can transform their organization over the next 10 years.”

It’s an exciting possibility for both Watson and the Patriots. The quarterback wants out. However, the Texans won’t give up on him that easily.

Watson is the best long-term option for the Patriots. Getting him would be a pricey deal, but he is worth the money. If Belichick wants to make the playoffs in the next few seasons, he has to make the right move.

Belichick may draft a quarterback and bring back Newton. The 2015 NFL MVP will turn 32 by the beginning of the 2021 season. He may play well in 2021 but he isn’t a long-term option for the Patriots.
