Report: Lakers to Sign Center Damian Jones to 2nd 10-Day Contract

The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to make a decision on center Damian Jones and his contract. The team needs to address several issues and offering him a deal seems like a good option right now.

According to recent reports, Jones may sign another 10-day deal with the team. He had some effective contribution to the Lakers’ lineup, and the front office may consider bringing him back. Adrian Wojnarowski was among the first to report the information.

The Phoenix Suns released Jones last month and Rob Pelinka didn’t waste any time. The center was averaging 4.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in his three games this season.

In 2016, the Golden State Warriors drafted Jones as the final selection in the first round of the NBA draft. After the 2018-19 NBA season, the team sent him to the Atlanta Hawks and he signed a deal with the Suns in free agency prior to the start of the 2020-21 NBA season.

Damian Jones to get another contract

The Lakers have to create the perfect plan for the next few weeks. The return date of Anthony Davis is still unknown, and the team has to fill up the void and provide a balance. Bringing Jones to the team seems like a good idea at this point. This is one of the reasons LA had to offer him the initial deal.

This is not an unexpected development given how Jones played in his first 10 days with the team. The center has the greatest field goal percentage in team history (100%) by virtue of hitting all five of his shots in three games. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has nothing but words of praise for Jones. He had great words for the center after the final game of the first half of the season.

According to Vogel, Jones has played well in the first 10 days. He showed a lot and has great size. Vogel praised Jones’ skill set, adding that he is a good fit in the modern NBA. So, yes, we should all be optimistic about Jones’ future with the team. Jones may get another chance to show his talent.
