Robert Kraft Reveals If He Regrets Letting Tom Brady Leave

Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick let Tom Brady go in 2020. It was a big blow for the New England Patriots. Brady led the team to six Super Bowl wins. Seeing him go was really hard and fans were disappointed. But, Brady had an opportunity to do something about himself and the Patriots respected it.

Brady signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He won a Super Bowl in his first season with the team. Brady likes to win games, too.

If you ask Kraft, he will say there are no hard feelings at this point. They split ways with the greatest quarterback of all time.

Robert Kraft rooted for Tom Brady

The Patriots owner had a media session with reporters and used the opportunity to talk about TB12. Kraft really wishes Brady would have retired as a Patriots player. But, he doesn’t regret allowing Brady to leave the only team he has ever played with.

Kraft would have taken the same approach with players who had achieved Brady’s success with the Patriots.

“I would have loved for him to retire as a Patriot. Everyone knew that. After 20 years, I thought he was entitled to make a decision that was best for him. And we gave him the ability to do that.”

Brady was excellent in 2020. He played with a strong group of weapons and this made things easier for him. He didn’t even look like a 40+ guy.

Kraft and Belichick have moved on from Brady. They brought Cam Newton to New England last summer. Newton wasn’t that great in 2020 but Belichick decided to give him a chance. He is the 2015 NFL MVP and Belichick respects that.

Of course, the Patriots head coach can always bring a new player and make him compete with Newton. He did that in 2020. Newton competed with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. What happened next? He got the job. Will he play better in 2021? He has better weapons and yes, he knows the system.
